[Opinions] Martine

Love it
I was watching a TV episode of an Agatha Christie mystery once. Martine was the name of a minor character. As soon as I heard it that little name nerd bell went off in my head, "Hey! An underappreciated gem of a name. Not too common, not too weird."
I love the slightly exotic quality it has. It makes a nice alternative to Marie as a mn. Someone on here once asked what we thought of Nadia Marie as a combination. I tweaked it and suggested Nadia Martine. Slavic / French combinations really work for me because they share the same air of mystery and intrigue. Like an Erte drawing.
For some reason I don't find Martina appealing at all. But Martine is so stream-lined and elegant that I find it irresistable. Mentally, I put Martine in the same "impossibly elegant" category as Ines, Colombe and Eugenie.

I actually quite like it. I think I might slightly prefer Martina, but that's probably because I tend to like 'a' endings. I'd never even noticed the connection between martini and Martine before you pointed it out. I associate it with the English actress Martine McCutcheon (who was in Love Actually, if you've seen it).
But anyway. It is rather lovely. And could work on anyone, from baby to old woman.

Ooh I love that combo! Funny that I didn't put it together before, since Claudia is one of my favorite names.
It's so hard to put my finger on why I like it. And the weird thing is, I don't like any of the other "een" ending names in your post... so you would think I would hate it! I suppose it's the "crispness" of the sound of the "tine" and that its uncommon (which is why Justine- which seems outdated, doesn't do it for me.)
