Freaky.
I was talking to a co-worker this morning about
Berthe. She was saying how her grandmother's name was
Bertha Gertrude. I gave her the
German pronunciation of both. She said they were much better than in English. I said that overall I prefer the French pronunciation. She agreed. It's weird to see
Berthe come up on this site. I had another freaky coincidence this morning too.
Anyway.
Berthe is gorgeous. I love the "behr-" sound in it, as you can see from my pseudonym.
Berthe is so elegant. I love
German names anyway. And when the French take one and alter it that just adds another layer of "oh, goodie" to it all.
My favorites from your wonderful list:
Berthe AlphonsineBerthe Corisande
Berthe CornelieBerthe Eloise /
HeloiseBerthe EugenieBerthe EulalieBerthe HenrietteBerthe JosephineBerthe LucreceBerthe MargueriteBerthe Marjolaine (a new name for me -- thanks!)
Berthe MelisandeBerthe MelusineBerthe PhilippineBerthe Rosamonde
Berthe Wilhelmine (If I remember correctly, the French would pronounce this with a "v" sound too, yes?)
So many great names I passed on because they seemed too delicate, not meat-and-potatoes enough for
Berthe. In truth, if I ever met anyone with any of these names I'd be on here with a thread to announce it with glee. I have the luxury to be picky since you have so many beauties to choose from.
May I try a few for you?
Berthe LudivineBerthe GervaiseBerthe GermaineBerthe Clothilde (too much "t" sound, though?)
Berthe Mathilde (ditto)
Berthe EdwigeBerthe GhislaineBerthe VictoireBerthe Segolene /
SieglindeBerthe GodelieveBerthe HonorineBerthe FrancoiseBerthe HortenseBerthe Solveig ("SOL-vay")
Berthe Ursule
Berthe DagmarBerthe OdileBerthe ElfriedeBerthe Hannelore
Thanks for a fun thread. I'm still a little freaked out, but happy.
