It's one half of my favorite combo, Hillel Akiva :), so I like it quite a bit.

Reminds me of the dog breed Akita.

I've recently discovered Akiva and it's growing on me! I prefer it on a boy, but the person I heard it on was a woman.

It's one of my teacher's names.

Akiba Rubinstein was a famous chessplayer. Akiva is the modern rendition of Akiba.
It's strictly for boys but I once saw someone on here considering it as a girl's name, in which case I'd say stick with Aviva!
