[Opinions] Zinnia
Replies
I prefer Zinnia to Azalea. It's very cute, but would also age well, imo. Both names make me think of the color purple...I don't think I've actually ever seen either one before so I don't know what colors they actually are, but for some reason they definitely make me thunk of purple.

I love it and don't know why it isn't more popular
Considering the popularity of flower names like Rose and Lily, the appeal of retro/Victoria sounding names, and the sass of the letter Z, I would think people would be all over this.
I'd totally use it myself, except that I used to have a cat named Zinnia, so it would be a little strange to follow that with a daughter by the same name.

I like Zinnia. I prefer Zinnia over Azalea because Azalea gives me some Sylvia Plath imagery that's hard to shake. For me, both Azalea and Zinnia are more strongly tied to their word name roots than more conventional flower names like Rose and Daisy, so I pull the colors directly from the plants: pink for Azalea and orange for Zinnia.
Hmm, I actually don't mind it! Which is saying a lot because I'm not usually into unconventional flower names, and I hate Z. But I do like zinnias, so that helps. It's a cute name. Zinny would be an adorable nn. I much prefer it to Azalea.
Azalea is kind of an aqua color and Zinnia is a magenta sort of color to me. Really pretty when next to each other.

I have synesthesia, so Azalea will always automatically make me think of the color red and green (the letter A is red and the letter L is green and they seem to stick out in this letter combination). Zinnia makes me think of a very dark navy and brown (Z is the dark navy and N is the brown and they stand out in this letter combination).
I think both names are on equal footing to my eye and ear.

I prefer Azalea, but love both. Azalea has cuter nickname options (Zaley, Lea, Leelee, Ayzee/AZ, Zay/ZayZay, Zale-ya), and besides I think it is an actual botanical name, whereas Zinnia was after the surname of Johann Zinn.
Azalea is a pinkish red to me, whereas Zinnia is an purple or orange.
(Really funny, but after I said what colors they remind me of I googled their pictures, and Azaleas were Pinkish red and Zinnias were purple and orange!)
