[Opinions] Kaven/Cavan
What are your thoughts on Kaven or Cavan for a boy?
I don't know if I'm saying them right but I'm saying them the way I love them - "KAY-ven" and "KAH-van".

I like Cavan- I don't live near Ireland so I don't think the county is a big problemA kid in one of my classes is named Kavan (the first A is like the A in "cap".) Kaven is okay, but I'm inclined to say it the same way as Kavan. KAY-ven seems like it should be Caven, but then it looks like the word "cave".
I know a guy named Keyvan (pron. KAY-vahn.) so it reminds me of him. I also knew a guy at my work named Kavin, pron. KAY-vin. I think it's nice and much fresher sounding than Kevin.
The pronunciation is KAH-van. To me, Cavan is the name of a county, not a person's name. It'd be like calling your child Laois or Donegal or Wexford; completely strange (especially if Cavan was actually from Cavan). Best to go with a proper Irish PERSON'S name, like Garbhán (GAHR-vawn). I love that name.
PS - Cavan reminds me of this really bad joke I once heard. "Why is County Monaghan like a cow? Because they're both near Cavan!" Terrible. Trillian's comment is right - County Cavan is the butt of many Irish jokes.
EDIT: I've just noticed that the usage of Cavan is put under "Irish". Maybe it's a very rare surname, but that must be a mistake - no one in Ireland would have Cavan as a first name. People would think they misheard him or he's trying to be funny. This really isn't a person's name.
