[Opinions] Hedwidge WDYT?
One of my great-grandaunts was named Hedwidge, and all my family usually jokes about how awful this name is. My grandmother said when she was little she never knew how to spell it and would write "Hedgewich." My brother also commented that it sounds like "Eggwich." But despite that the name is actually starting to grow on me! I noticed that my aunts particular variation isn't in the BtN database.
I'm interested to see what some opinions are on the name, I think it is a good old name but I don't think it could pass the playground test especially here in the US. I think the nickname Edda is relatively acceptable though.
Also, what do you think is the best variation?
Edvige
Edwige
Hedviga
Hedvika
Hedwidge
Hedwig
Jadwiga
Jadzia

Ever see the movie Hedwig and the Angry Itch?
The fist thing that pops into my mind is from the commercial for the film "Hedwig and the Angry Inch.": "Ladies and Gentlemen, whether you like it or not... HEDWIDGE!" (I realize that the add says Hedwig, but that's not the name in quesiton)
I think it's pretty ugly. I like Jadzia, but I'm a Deep Space 9 nerd.

I'm quite fond of Edvige.
I love Hedwig
Yes, Hedwig's awesome!
Hedwig is the best variation. That's actually a family name of mine. It's my grandmother's middle name, and it was her grandmother's first name. I used to use it for myself in German class. It's very rare in Germany now; most of the people with this name are 80 or older. I think it's beautiful.
Edwige is also a nice variation.
I understand that you like the name Hedwidge. It's pretty cool, and you have a legitimate right to use it because it's a family name. However, because of peoples' ignorant naming preferences in the modern day, you may wish to stick with Hedwig.
I can also suggest to you the name Hathaway. If you are to etymologically trace the name Hathaway back a 1000 years to Old English, the name then, which had many variations, is very similar to Hedwig...one variation was Hadewig.
