Your first character: Leslie Laertes Chiamulera “Les”
Appearance: Five feet, eight inches tall. Medium build. He has very strong arms. Has dark, thick, curly black hair, inherited from his father who is a Mexican American, that he keeps at slightly longer than shoulder length. His skin is faintly bronze. He has large, dark, piercing eyes and full lips. He has a very English nose, inherited from his mother, who is an American of English and Hungarian dissent.
Life thus far: He was born in Peoria, Illinois. His mother was an English teacher at Bradley University. His father owned a Mexican restaurant. He was named after his maternal grandfather and her mother’s favorite Shakespeare character. He has one sister, two years younger than himself, who was a product of an affair his father had with one of his waitresses. His mother accepted the girl into the family after the mother died in childbirth. Her name is Paloma Pilar Chiamulera.
Les had a relatively unambitious childhood. He was good a soccer, good enough to always be on the team, but was never a star. His mother insisted he have an education in the arts, so he was always encouraged to paint. He also took piano and dance lessons and voice lessons with his sister. They sang duets at family get-togethers.
Paloma was very different from Les. She was a wild child, always testing the boundaries of her parents’ patience. She loved to party and to manipulate men. Life was very much a game to her. She caused Les all sorts of anxiety. He alone in the family knew just how far her problems had gone.
At eighteen, Les moved to Chicago to try his luck in a real city. He was attending Columbia College, majoring in film with a concentration on screan writing. This came as a surprise to his family, as he it was generally agreed up on that, while he had immense talents in music and art and dance, he was not a writer. In the month of October, two months after Les moved away, his sister died of a drug overdose at a party. He was crushed.
After that, Les lived his life in a daze. He dated a great beauty named Tara DeGlau, but she left him after two years, dissatisfied with his depression. He loved her, but was unable to come out of his shell completely. He watches in fascination as she becomes a famous actress.
Les, now twenty-two, has moved to New York. He has gotten a job as a line editor on a d-list late night talk show, while preparing to make is debut as a writer/director.
