Message: "Elbridge?" - Behind the Name

I was looking through names from the 1881 - Elbridge was #653.

Anyone know anything about it?

I kind of like it. Seems similar to Atticus to me (which I like a lot), without even hitting the popularity charts today.

I'd guess it's just a variant of Eldridge. Elbridge sounds a bit softer. I do kind of see a similarity to Atticus if I think of Atticus in a little more of an Atticus Finch sense. It mostly makes me think of Eldridge though, which was the name of a dorm at my university.
