Aka "the porn play"
Well, that's what my Classical Studies called Lysistrata. I couldn't take somebody with this name at all seriously after reading that play.

Women refusing sex with their husbands until they negotiate peace
Sorry, but that's all I can think of when I hear "Lysistrata."

Wouldn't that make it a strong name?
Wouldn't you want you're daughter to be peace loving and go all the way to ensure their children are safe in the future and their husbands can return home to spend time with them?
On the other hand, I don't find the sound very pleasing, so I wouldn't use it. But I could see it in a middle name spot.

I agree, but
Any name with a sexual overtone is a bit uncomfortable to use.
OT: apparently women in some parts of Africa are doing just that.

That's very interesting about the "technique" being used in Africa. Do you have any more information on that?
What's the overtone with Lysistrata?
Did you read the play?
We had to read it for AP Literature & Comp, there are tons of sexual motifs and dirty jokes. Enough if anyone ever met the girl who knew the play, they would probably give her hell about it or at least feel terribly sorry for it. It wasn't a serious play really at all with all of this deep feminist meaning, it was a comedy of dirty jokes. It's just not something you should name a daughter.

Umm....
I'm not supposed to be in AP Lit and Comp for another couple years.

I was just wondering if you read it because we had it for required reading. I honestly have no idea about your age so you could be 27 have had it years ago.
Yeah...I may look or sound like I'm 27 or older, but I'm only a teenager that has mishappened to look a lot older than I really am.
it's not completely dignified.
In the play, IIRC, it's supposed to be kinda funny; she's the butt of a joke in a way. The women end up giving up first because they want sex themselves, or something like that.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong =\
It's not totally anti-feminist but it's not something I'd want to be named... it just relates too much to sexuality.

Having read it, I would never ever name a little girl this. Not even as a middle name. Dirty jokes come to mind when I see the name.
Love it, but it's a lot to put on someone.
The associations are a bit racy for actual use, but it's a cool name otherwise.
I like it. It reminds me of the Iliad for some reason, probably it's because it's ancient Greek! The only problem I have with it is that I can't picture it on a baby, just an ancient Greek woman.
