As a nickname for Anne, of course. What do you think of it?
I was just thinking about Anne again and I'm liking it even more. Like it's contending for #2 on my girl's list. I like the nn Annie, but I also have always liked Nan. I love the sentiment of its origins (comes from "mine Anne"), and I can totally see myself using it as a nn on a baby or young girl. I think it's adorable. It would be more like an affectionate nickname at home rather than what the girl would go by to others.

I love the history of it and do like the sound, but it kinda reminds me of an even shortened version of Nanna for Grandma. But it wouldn't really be a big deal if you were calling her that at home (and even if the pet name caught on in school, etc. it'd be fine. It'd be pretty obvious that she wasn't a granny).
Btw, a literary connection (and I'm sure there are more)...isn't one of the girls in L.M. Alcott's "Little Men" named Nan, short for Anne as well?

I can't really get used to it as a name because it's a standard word for grandmother here. I've never called either of my grannies Nan but most people I know do. It could work as a nickname at home though. I like Annie.

Anne is a lovely name, and I much prefer Nan to Annie in terms of nicknames. It also seems a lot more of a pet name than Annie, which seems like a name nickname.
Also, it reminds me of Anne's daughter in the Anne of Green Gables series.

I really dislike Nan. Its so dull, frumpy and it just reminds me of the word "nanny" or something you would call your grandma.

It is quite cute. It's also a nickname my momma used to call me (well, she will use it from time to time nowadays)

I like Nan a lot - it's got lots of history, but it's a grandmother-name where I live too (although not in my family), which is a shame as I'd love to use it.

I'm not too keen on the sound, but it's all right. I prefer Annie as a nn overall.

I love Anne, and Nan is sweet. Many of my friends call their grandmothers "Nan", "Nanny", or "Nanna" though, so my mind immediately leaps to that.

I never really thought of the grandmother thing. Hardly anyone uses those words for grandmother where I live, so I don't associate Nan, Nanny, or Nanna with grandmothers.

I think that Nan is very charming.
I would love to see it as a nickname for Anne. It would be a charming (sorry to use that word again, I can't think of a better one) throwback to bygone times. Plus I think that Anne is boring, and Nan isn't.
