There have been enough boys named Destin in the USA for it to make the SSA top 1000 every year list since 1994. It's possible that some parents think of it as a masculine form of Destiny. The resort town in Florida (which was named after an early settler, and so comes from a surname) is probably also a factor.
Destin seems to fit in pretty well with modern names to me. Personally I'd rather have a name that began with "dest" than with "dust", which seems a rather unattractive word.
