The Bulgarian female name Åëåíà (
Elena) obviously comes from the Saint
Helen, the mother of Saint
Constantine, and therefore from the beautiful
Helen depicted by
Homer.
On the other hand, deer in Bulgarian is åëåí (elen). So, some people believe that those words are related.
Moreover, there is a male name Åëåíêî(Elenko). I cannot say if it is related to Saint
Helen or to the Slavic word for "deer".
