Help[Surname] French surname - VAUN
Good morning,
I'm interested in the meaning of the surname of VAUN and where in France it may be popular. Also I wish to know how it was pronounced. Is the 'n' silent?
I have an ancestor who was born in France around 1843, unknown where in France, who emigrated to England (unknown when).
I do not know his religion but he married an english widow in Kent - Church of England (1880) and was buried in a Church of England cemetery in Essex.
He could write and his signature was legible. His children also used the surname of VAUN.
All 3 Census (1881, 1891 & 1901) all state he was born in France.
