Lilia Greenebaum is a Polish-American Jew on her mother’s side and a German/Dutch-American Jew on her father’s side. She was born in America, and her parents were the first and the second generation to be born in America. She has two older sisters and one younger brother. Lilia grew up in Pennsylvania. Russel comes from an old money Anglo-Saxon family who has a history of lawyers and businessmen and he has one sibling, a younger sister Marjorie. Russel grew up in Chicago. Lilia and Russel met in undergraduate school at Northwestern University. Russel was learning law and Lilia was a Literature major. They met at the school’s library where Lilia was working to pay for school. She also was working at the writing center. Lilia and Russel were good friends for many years. Russel went straight to graduate law school at Columbia University, while Lilia got a job as a librarian and had some other odd jobs. During a road trip to visit Russel and see the coast, Lilia went to the Library of Congress. She realized that working there was her dream job. She loved to be around some of the oldest books in the country. So from some monetary help and encouragement from Russel, Lilia got into the University of Maryland’s Library Science Graduate program.

Jake and Sloane met while they were in college. She was majoring in Education. He was a Biology major and active in the ROTC as an officer. They remained friends throughout college but didn't start dating until after graduation. Jake, after his graduation, entered Medical school in the Washington, D.C. area and continued his career as an officer in the Navy while Sloane continued her education. After she graduated, she spent the summer traveling before starting Graduate school in the Fall; she planned on getting her Master's in American Studies. At this time, they were both living in the DC Metro area and began spending time with each other on a regular basis, and it wasn't long before the two became a couple.
After Sloane graduated, she got a job as a high school History teacher and Jake now works permanently in the Navy as a Medical Officer. They got married after his graduating and are living in Virginia, not far from the city.

Henry & Leah have been friends ever since preschool. They're families were friends before they were born. They both enjoyed the same types of things in school, but never really thought about each other as a future mate. Finally Henry decided to ask Leah to the prom and of course she said "Yes!" (she had had a crush on him for sooo long!). After highschool Henry went to collage but Leah didn't. When Henry came home on break the first time it was strange for Leah to see him because he had changed so much (same for Henry!) that they sort of fell apart and stopped being such good friends. After Henry finished collage he realized that he really did love Leah but he wasn't sure if she did him. After 5 years of dating and being friends Henry asked Leah to marry him, she was surprised but said "Yes" anyway. They were married a year later in small church in the middle of no where. They now live in a small log cabin that Leah's parents own. Leah does babysitting/cleaning for people that need help, and Henry works at a grocery store in town. They are looking forward to to starting their family soon!

At first the two of them didn't really get along, Lainey was a bit of a flirt and Gabriel just didn't particularily care about much, but when they saw each other at university later that year something seemed to click with them and they decided to try going out.
