I admit it, I like Bathsheba as a full name.
That's the problem. I only like the full name, and the full name is a mouthful.
Nickname possibilities are less than desirable. Bath or Bathie? No. Sheba I don't like, seems too much like a "power princess" action figure for little girls.
So...do you like Bathsheba in its entirety, or no? Do you consider it usable? It's undeniable it has been practically unused for a long time. Is it unusable because of its lack of viable nicknames? Or do you consider Sheba not a bad nickname?

I think it's awesome. Mr. Pie has one in his family tree, and I am very jealous. :) But you're right, the nicknames aren't great. The only ones I can think of that haven't already been suggested are Ba or Baba. At least with the French version - Bethsabée - you can use Beth.

I don't like it at all. It starts with 'bath' and ends with 'Sheba' (a brand of cat food).

I think it's the cat food association that turns me off Sheba. That, and Sheba sounds like a pet's name.

Bathsheba reminds me of the Richard Thompson song, Bathsheba Smiles.
I appreciate this name for its unusualness and Biblical roots, but it is an awful lot of a name, and as you pointed out, there aren't many good nickname options.
I have to agree with you on Sheba. It is probably the most usable nickname, and to me Sheba reminds me of a Siberian husky dog.
I find Bathsheba most fitting as a middle name, to balance out a shorter first name, like Clair Bathsheba, Anne Bathsheba, and Mary Bathsheba. It almost needs to be paired with something very traditional to give it some familiarity.

It reminds me of Shulamith, which is such a mouthful that it's often abbreviated to Shula (which I don't like).

It's a cool name, but I can only imagine it on a Orthodox Jewish person or some Puritan-type woman. I like Sheba enough as a nn.
