Help[Opinions] Myra
I think this name is my new love, pronunced MY-ruh. It is also a family name for me (one of my grandmother's great-aunts who was very beautiful and died tragically young). Her name was Marian Elmira, but she went by Myra.
What is your opinion? This would replace Magdalene on my list.

Well, I like Myra better than Magdalene.
Actually, it reminds me of Myra Gail Lewis, Jerry Lee Lewis's 13-year- old cousin/bride. It's a spunky name in its own way, but it always makes me think of her.

I really like Myra, even though it's the swedish word for "ant".
I know you like Theodora, and I think Myra Theodora sounds great! But Theodora should be in the FN spot. ;)

I can't like it, as all I think of is Myra Hindley, the serial killer. She died a few years back. She was pretty much the most hated woman in Britain.
Edit: I took this from the comments section on Myra:
Absolutely taboo in Britain due to the fame of Myra Hindley, one of the Moors Murderers. Almost the female equivalent of Adolf here.

Got such a bad reputation in the UK as said above, it's like it's illegal! I don't think you'll find a Myra here without at least being over 50.

Yes, I have heard that before.
Because I have never heard of Myra Hindley (I am American), it doesn't really phase me, and Myra has been in the top 1000 year pretty much since the name statistics were first recorded.
I think the disdain for Myra is regional enough so that I would still use it. After all, I am sure the name isn't the reason why the person did something wicked.

Probably because it was relatively unusual, so it looked like a one-owner name. Or maybe that kind of sexual violence seems worse when enjoyed by women? Because nobody stopped using Ian because of Brady ...
