[Opinions] WDYT of Galina?
WDYT of Galina? It would obliquely honor both my Mom and MIL. Does the fact that it means "chicken" in Spanish make it unusable? Thanks.Edit: whoops, gallina is chicken in Spanish. A bit different. :)

I love it and I think it's usable, especially if it's honoring.

I always think of poultry too!I can't really see it as a fn in an English-speaking context. But as a mn it could be a winner, especially with the double grandma connection.

Instantly reminded me of a hen - Gallina is also hen in Italia. To the majority of the population this wouldn't be an issue, but I instantly thought of this! lol I would still think its alright to use though - unless you happen to live in a heavily Italian or Spanish populated area.

I know that the Spanish gallina is pronounced differently than Galina - gie-YEE-na versus ga-LEE-na. How is the Italian pronounced?

It reminds me of a brand of wedding dresses they have at David's Bridal....

I love Galina. And no one would know that it means "chicken" in Spanish. I've taken 7 years of Spanish and I didn't know that. The word "pollo" is used for chicken in Spanish - chicken that is eaten. Maybe a "galina" is a chicken walking around? Regardless, know one would know that. And even if it does mean chicken, I don't think it matters. Galina is such a pretty name. I would not base it on the chicken thing. Isn't it also Russian?

Yes, it's Russian and Italian. I looked it up and the Spanish is gallina, so slightly different, and different pronunciation. Probably not so bad then. :) I believe it means "hen" specifically in Spanish.

I like it-- sounds pretty. If you are considering "G" names in general, you may also want to consider
Gail (also has "G" and "L" sounds like Galina)Greta
Genevieve
(these have a harder sound whereas Galina is soft, but they are also pretty and quite feminine)Good Luck to you and baby!
