Help[Opinions] Middle name for Jonquil...
...who's going to be a boy. There have been many, many attempts to talk his prospective mother out of it, but she's adamant. His grandfathers' names (Peter and Geraint) have been suggested for middles, but she doesn't like either of those. So, any ideas?

Gawrsh. As long as it's not at all gender-ambiguous, not even slightly, I suppose it doesn't matter much: pity about the rejected grandfathers, though! Jonquil Peter Geraint, or indeed Jonquil Geraint Peter, would work well.
What does she like that's mainstream? Andrew, like Flintoff? David, like Becks? Even Wayne, like Rooney! Or Gordon, or Nicholas, or Cameron ...
And, indeed, what about the little lad's father? Presumably he's got a name, and an opinion. (Where I live there's a media-friendly Catholic priest called Father Hyacinth Bonaventure, but I'm not suggesting anything; not at all!)

What other types of names does she like? I'm not sure if I should suggest a more classic middle name, something trendy, or something more unique/old-fashioned.

As far as I can work out, she likes nature names, and *some* traditional names - her daughter's middle name is Gwyneth, but that's because dad's name is Gwyn. I think unusual would probably be good, trendy not so much.

Hmmm. Has she considered Jolyon, nn Jon? That's a character's name and nn in "The Forsyte Saga." The cast pronounce Jolyon with a long "o" sound, but the nn is definitely short, as in Jon / John.
In an attempt to distract her with shiny objects, how about suggesting these instead of Jonquil:
Justus, Carsten, Kendall, Quentin, Cavan (short "a" as in Gavin), Gavin, Garvan, Tarquin, Torquil, Redmond, Tighe, Ronan, Rowan (another plant name), Heath, Rainer, Stellan, Kester, Dashiell.

I actually think that could work. If he grows up to be not as adventurous as mom, he has the very safe and respectable Jon at his disposal. At least it's not baby boy Daffodil! It's a shame she's not digging Jonquil Geraint, that is aces.
