[Opinions] Homer
D'oh! I've fallen in love with this name. I never thought that would happen, seeing as how it's so closely tied with a certain yellow character from modern pop culture.
Well, I adore it. I think it's handsome in a down-home sort of way. What do you think?

This is a huge GP for me. I love this name.
I didn't think of Homer Simpson at all, but I did think of the Odyssey and the Iliad.
I really really can't take it seriously.
It's my uncle and my cousin's name my cousin hates it so much that he goes by his middle name instead.

I think people would immediately think of the homely yellow character and/or the Iliad and Odyssey... Not really a fan of it as an actual name... seems more nn.y.
Sorry but all I can think of is Homer Simpson and since I'm not a fan of the show, that puts me off the name completely.
I love Homer! I'm a classicist who has watched not one episode of The Simpsons; ergo, I associate the name solely with the blind bard. :)
Hector was my Father's middle name, also my Grandfather's.It was a quite common name in the area where I grew up, nothern Nova Scotia. One reason, I'm told, was that many people who came as immigrants fron Scotland arrived on a sailing ship, the "Hector".And were, presumably, happy to have arrived safely in the new country.
So the name was passed on.

I have a hard time taking it seriously, and not just because of Homer Simpson. It also makes me think of "homer" as in homerun, so it's rather wordy to me. Its only redemption is Homer the writer/poet, which does give it a nice wise, sophisticated, sweater-wearing side.
I actually know a Homer, so the name makes me think of him, too.
