[Opinions] Hecuba?
I was watching this movie and she named her cat Hecuba. I thought, what a cool name! So do you think Hecuba could work on a person?
Replies
I dislike the latinized version, it sounds harsh... The original Greek name, Ekavi(Εκάβη) (eh-KAH-vee, rhymes with Hecate(Εκάτη)->eh-KAH-tee) sounds better but it's very rare, even in Greece.
I think I have seen that movie
Is it a black cat? Does the movie have something to do with witches or halloween or something? I feel like I have seen such a scene before and liked it.
I like Hecuba a lot (more than Hecate, which it seems to be interchanged with often) and I could see it on a person, but for some reason not a young person. I could totally see an elderly, formidably bosomy African-American lady wearing the name beautifully. I think it would be a great choice for a story - it's a name with a lot of personality.
Not so sure about real life. I think it would be awesome to have a friend named Hecuba, but it's for sure a name that takes balls to use.

teasing and silly jokes gallore, I'm sure... for example...
makes me think of hiccups... looks silly... cruel and unusual punishment... my next thought is of Mt. Tsukuba... so if Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Tsukuba had a baby, perhaps it would be called Mt. Hecuba.
Then there could be lame puns comparing it to heck-of-a...
That's 1 Hecuba _________. (choose your noun)
I just wouldn't do it. Not a chance.

not really
It's one of those names I can't imagine on a real person, plus who wants to be named like a queen whose all children were killed?

Although I love the classical association, I'm not particularly fond of the sounds that make up the name.
"Man-servant Hecubus!"
That's what it reminds me of. Great for a pet, cartoonish for a person.

My first thought: a particular Kids in the Hall sketch. It's actually Hecubus in their case, but it's close.
It sounds neat and very dramatic. I would limit its use to pets or fantasy characters. It's too over the top for me to really recommend it for a real, live person.

I like it on a cat, but on a person I can't help envisioning an old lady, or some kind of old fortune-teller or something. It would be kind of cool to meet one though.
