I really prefer Olivia! I did have a very nice aunt Olive, but it's really too oil and Oyl.

I really like it, but would never use it, because honestly, what little girl wants to seem to be named after olives? Olivia/Oliver are much more common so the association isn't really there, but you can't get out of it with just Olive. I just can't see how there wouldn't be teasing.

I do like it, though I never used to. It's very sweet, sunny and a little eccentric to me. I don't think I'd use Olive or Olivia on my own kids, but it would be refreshing to see Olive get some more use.

I don't understand when it's categorized as an old lady name though- it sounds very modern to me (in a good way). If I had to pick which one sounded more like an old lady, Olive or Olivia, I'd definitely say Olivia.

I used to really dislike this, but then I saw Little Miss Sunshine. The name fit Abigail Breslin's character perfectly! She was a little bit geeky, but full of energy, hope, and almost eternal optimism. The movie helped me really like it. I don't think I'll ever love it enough to use it, but I'd love to meet a little Olive.

I don't understand why so many people like it. I don't find any of the Olive/Olivia/Oliver names appealing, though. They just seem slimey to me.

Slimy? Awwww ... Its not my favorite either but I prefer it to Olivia. Oliver James is quite striking to me with a nn of Ollie. I would use the "olive" variants on a boy before I would a girl, though.

Not "bad fairytale villain" slimy but "olives in a jar of brine" slimy.

Growing up, my mother had a friend named Olive. She was from Ireland. I never gave the name much thought other than, "No one here in the U.S. would use that name."
Then I saw the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" and fell in love with the name. OK, Abigail Breslin had a little to do with it. But really, what little Olive wouldn't be adorable? It's certainly a name that will age gracefully.
The only down side that I see is people thinking your name is Olivia. That would get old. But it's not a deal breaker. I say go for it.
