Help[Facts] English surname history question
Need help with a story. Can anyone tell me where the surname Kendall would have been common in the medieval era? I've heard Wales and southern England, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

As a surname it would've been given to someone from the town of Kendale.
http://surnames.behindthename.com/php/search.php?type=n&terms=kendall
I also found this:
http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Kendall
So it would appear that the town is recorded in the Domesday Book, therefore it would've been reasonable to have a "surname" of Kendall in the Middle Ages.
For a story it would make the most sense to use it as a surname if the character or their family was from there.
