After a couple of tries, I'd probably pronounce it like Mary-Elle, but only because I have a friend named Mariel and I'm hardwired to revert to that name.
I'm not usually a fan of -elle names (Isabelle, Gabrielle, etc.) but this one has a nice sound to it. It's certainly more interesting than Mary or Ellen by themselves and it's not too trendy looking. I think it's a great honoring name.
