I had always just assumed that
Emmeline and
Emmaline were pronounced like EM-uh-line, but just now I looked
Emmeline up and found that it's pronounced EM-uh-leen. I don't like the listed pronunciation very much. It's the same thing with
Madeline. Since the first (and only)
Madeline I knew went by MAD-uh-line, I always pronounced the name as such, but a few years ago here on BtN I discovered that
Madeline is typically pronounced MAD-uh-linn.
So, what are your opinions of
Emmeline and
Emmaline pronounced with
LINE rather than
LIN? Would it cause confusion? I personally find it more confusing with the soft vowel sound, but I'm biased because of my experience with
Madeline.
