I actually know 2 and have meet 1 other, but it's not a super-common name.
Anyone else encountered this name?

Knew one Starla growing up in central Georgia. Seems a kind of a lower-class name to me. I think her middle name was the common Marie.
It's not bad. I prefer Sterling. I always thought of Sterling as a boys' name but I met a girl with this name and it actually fit, so I prefer it over Starla as a girls' name now.

I think of Sterling as strictly a surname and would never use it as a given name on anyone, regardless of gender... Besides, it's too preppy sounding as a given name.

There's a poster here whose name is Starla. Hopefully she'll see your post and can comment on her experience with her name.I personally dislike it because of the image it gives me.

I've never met anyone named Starla. However, I remember a poster by that name on Name Nerds saying that her name was often mistaken for Darla.

I have never really met anyone with the name outside of the internet.
I do not like it for some unknown reason, maybe, it is my style of naming.
