Knew one Starla growing up in central Georgia. Seems a kind of a lower-class name to me. I think her middle name was the common Marie.
It's not bad. I prefer Sterling. I always thought of Sterling as a boys' name but I met a girl with this name and it actually fit, so I prefer it over Starla as a girls' name now.

There's a poster here whose name is Starla. Hopefully she'll see your post and can comment on her experience with her name.

I personally dislike it because of the image it gives me.

I've never met anyone named Starla. However, I remember a poster by that name on Name Nerds saying that her name was often mistaken for Darla.
