Help[Opinions] Do you pronounce Kady and Katie the same? (more)
If not how do you pronounce them differently and where do you live? Thanks!

Totally differently in South Africa, where I've known a Katie sign her name K.T.

Katie and Kady sound very different in the UK. It bothers me that people seem to use them interchangeably in the US (even though I know that's petty).

Kady is KAY-dee. Katie is KAY-tee. If I'm speaking quickly, it may occasionally be slurred, but most of the time there's a distinct different.

I live in America and I try to pronounce them differently but sometimes I get lazy and the "t" becomes a "d"

I love Kady but...
I do prefer it spelled Cady. I think it is a gorgeous name - and even though they are nearly said the same, for some reason I think Cady/Kady is MILES better than Katie. I don't hate Katie, but I would never, ever use it as a NN. I would use Kate. But I love Cady just as much as Kate. It's weird, because like I said, I say Katie and Kady pretty much the same. I think the emphasis is more on the "D" and also I drag "Kady" out more. But the differences are very slim.

I want to say no, but...
...if anyone was listening to me repeat the two names over and over here at my kitchen table, they'd say yes. I think I say Katie with a definite accent on the "Kay". Kady sounds more like there is even accents on both "kay" and "dee". And the "Kay" is slightly longer, like Eden Electra said too. Kind of like saying the letters K D. I don't know. Clearly we are all having trouble putting the difference in words! :o)

My sister's name is Kadie and is pronounced a soft kay-dee. I was speaking to someone today named Katie and I pronounce it more like Kate-ee. I'm not sure that makes sense but the Kay part is definitely slightly longer and more pronounced in Kadie/Kady for me. My d's and t's don't sound similar at all either. I live in Scotland if it helps.

My tongue is softer in my mouth when I say Katie, than when I say Kady, but they sound very nearly the same as I say them out loud. (Western U.S.)
That said, I do not consider them to be the same name, or interchangeable. When I see Kady in print, I make particular effort to pronounce the "d" (I was taught to read phonetcially before I ever started school). I would not assume it's an alternate spelling of Katie, but perhaps a feminization of Cade/Kade or a made up name. Don't know if this extra bit of info helps you, but there it is. :)

I definitely agree on this. There's something about them that I form differently when speaking too though they sound the same.

I agree with both of you. Kady and Katie come out sounding the same but Kady had more "weight" in my mouth.

For me, they're different but the same. In most cases, T's get pronounced like D's.
