It sounds dated, but it's not bad. I would go so far as to say it's pretty. Much better than Carol on its own, which I don't care for at all. I prefer the spelling Carol-Ann. If it's Carolann, I suppose you'd have a middle name. But if it's Carol-Ann, would you consider Ann to be the middle name, or would Carol-Ann be the first name, and then you'd have another name as the middle name?
