Help[Surname] Gufford/McGufford???
Hello everyone, I'm new here and since I am into genealogy this looks like a great place to search! :-)
Anyway, one of the family names which has everyone stumped is "McGufford". Our first known ancestor was a Nathaniel McGufford who apparently came from Scotland in the 18th century to Wilmington, NC. Later the family dropped the "Mc" and just called their name "Gufford".
This name has proven impossible to track down!! I do feel it's Scottish, but if anyone can give me ANY info on this name, I would be extremely grateful!!
