[Opinions] Re: Thorsten
in reply to a message by Ann
I am very open to negative opinions but since I am not from nor have I ever been out of the US something being dated oversea's is not familiar with me. Some dated here such as Eugene, Warren, Nathaniel and so forth are coming back so my reply was to figure out how it is dated over there. Is it going to come back is it usable or is it a dead name like Earl.I don't think I have come across as offensive and my appologizes to you as well as Sigrid and Ninor if I have.I would also be interested if anyone here on BTN has a German take on Torsten as well. That is part of the reason we liked it because it is also used in Germany like my son Killian's name.

The German take on Torsten / Thorsten: It is usable but most people consider it 'eco' or 'hippie' along with names such as Malte, Sören and well... Killian / Kilian. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just saying the name has a certain image. Btw, you would probably get away with Torsten / Thorsten a lot easier in Nothern Germany than in the South. Hope that helps.

No problem, I couldn't tell if you were offended or not---the internet is an imperfect mode of communication.By the way, I am in the US and I really don't think the name is old-fashioned in a negative way. I have the same view of it as Emma: yes it is dated, but in a good way.
