Eilidh Murron is wunderbar, n'est-ce pas? But I confess Ailsa Lilias has my heart. I adore Ailsa and wish she would hurry up and catch on in the U.S. Everytime I see Ainsley being used for a girl I want to offer the parents Ailsa instead. *sigh*

I didn't realize it was St. Andrew's Day. Shame on me.I don't have stock Scottish combos, but I adore Scottish names in general. They are so rugged and romantic at the same time. All of yours are terrific. But I have to give the prizes to Eilidh Murron and Somerled Angus. Eilidh is especially fetching. How she sparkles. Off the top of my head, how about:Elspeth Catriona (Elsie)
Iseabail / Ishbel Fiona
Jean Ailsa (Jessie)
Isla Marsaili (how do you pronounce Marsaili, by the way?)
Muireall Glenna
Oighrig / Effie Catriona
Morag Skye
Ena Lilias
Edme LiliasAinsley Tavish
Dougal Kester
Malcolm Gregor
Gavin Adair
Arran Kenneth
Lachlan Sholto
Calum Innes
Ian Torquil

Yey Ainsley for a boy! I love your combos, especially Effie Catriona, Ainsley Tavish and Malcolm Gregor.Marsaili I'm not so sure about since it must be pretty rare (even over here). I have a friend whose cousin is called Marsali (pr. mar-sah-li), not sure if its similar :S

valuable, inside informationSo. This friend's cousin named Marsali, does the emphasis go on the first or second syllable? (This is too good to pass up.) At least I know the "s" is pronounced like an English "s" and not "sh." I'm sure it's the same as Marsaili, just a variant spelling.I've wondered about this name for a while. Thanks for your help. :-)

First so its more MAR-sah-li, but I could be wrong... We central Scotland types aren't reknowned for our pronounciation :)

Gormlaith! Is Gormlaith kick-a$$ or what? I was on vacation recently and Gormlaith got into my head. She wouldn't leave for days. I find her strong and handsome, regal and kind. I picture her as a best friend to Boudicca. She's a real lady. I pronounce her "GORM-luh," is that correct? Tadhg is a top five name for me. I'm surprised the Anglicized form Tighe isn't more popular here in the U.S.

I picked it cause of the meaning, I'm not big on the look or sound, but the meaning was hard to go past. I was prn. it same wasy as you. It could make a great middle name to spice up a more common first name. There's a Tadhg at Ella's school. We also have a Saoirse, a Caoimhe and an Aoife (not all from the same family). I think thats pretty cool cause we live in Aus.

Finlay Muir and UisdeanFinlay Muir is heavenly. I can't believe Muir isn't on my long list, I've loved it forever. I can see a real-life Finlay Muir.Do you know how to pronounce Uisdean? It's interesting me strangely.

Finlay is very near the top of my list for boys at the moment and Muir is a family name.Uisdean is pretty hard to capture in English, but I would go for something between Oosh-jun and Oosh-dn.

Maybe because it's not technically a Scottish name? But it's Scottish-y, so I figured it could count. :)

You're right. I think of it as Scottish, more than Latin, too. It diefinitely counts as far as I'm concerned. I've got it on my long list under Scottish names, not Latin. So there's no excuse for me overlooking it.

MairiI'm picking up new Scottish names today. This is great. I've added Mairi to my long list thanks to you. :-)Don't you love how the Scots put "-ina" on the end of any male name? I suppose it's no different than French "-ine" or "-ette" and English does it too. but somehow it's sweeter when the Scots do it. In my baby name book I've got Jacobina, Douglasina and Hughina listed. I mean, who else would do that?

el-ah-satch if I remember rightly. It's Gaelic for Elizabeth. I can't believe I forgot Arran, I love that. And Corran as well.
