[Opinions] Re: Muriel
in reply to a message by Marie
I adore the name Muriel. I pronounce it the same way you do. I fell in love with it watching "Muriel's Wedding." The way her sister Joan says, "You're terrible, Murrrrrriel," with the Aussie accent is so endearing. How could I help it? I love the meaning and even prefer the Muirgheal spelling, although I completely understand wanting the user-friendly Muriel version. By the way, you may like Muir for a boy. It's exactly like the first syllable of Muriel. Muir Matheson was a conductor for films in the 1940's. I used to see his name in the credits all the time and was fascinated by it.

Oooh, Muir is interesting. I like it. :) I prefer the Muriel spelling, because as you said it is user friendly. I'd be afraid to name a child Muirgheal here in the States, because I'm sure people would mispronounce it horribly all the time, which is a shame.
