It seemed like every time I read a cool, 19th century Russian novel there was a minor character, usually a butler or other servant, named
Timofei. His wife was invariably
Marfa.
I have so many wonderful memories of being a teen-aged bookworm and loving those books. So
Timofei has a place in my heart and gets my vote here. Besdies,
Timotei is so close to
Timothy (verbally and visually) that it's better to be as different as possible, to avoid confusion.
Timofei (in my mind at least) is farther from
Timothy than
Timotei is, if that makes sense.
