The first thing I thought of was the "Wives". I don't really get "Stepfather" from it, even after reading your question.
If it was a family surname I wanted to honor, I'd have no problem using it as a given name for a boy, but I'd probably relegate it to middle namehood.
Sherlock feels more like a usable first name to me than this does. :)
