I have heard of several different meanings for
Tanya. The first is 'fairy queen' - Russian. The main other is Greek and is 'sun', another is Latin I think and is 'centre' or 'great'. Definately better than fairy princess!
Has some connection with italian too from this: Feminine form of the
Roman name Tatianus, which was from the
Roman name Tatius, which is of unknown meaning. Several early saints bore this name.
and apparently can mean 'silver-haired'.
