[Opinions] Dora
The post about Dora Fern made me think. Over the past few months, Dora has been growing on me. Specifically, as a full name, not a nickname. My only problem is that some people might think of Dora the Explorer. What do you think of Dora as a full name? Know any good middle names for it?

Dora Winifred :DThat's DW's real name in the Arthur books/TV show. I still like the combo, though.

I think it would be perfectly fine as a full name. "Dora the Explorer" is popular for kids these days, but I don't think that the name is unusable because of that. "Maya the Bee" didn't seem to hinder Maya's popularity, so why not use Dora? People might bring up the association, but it's not that big of a deal. I don't think it would bring about much ridicule.Combos:
Dora Gabrielle
Dora Simone
Dora Noelle
Dora Elspeth
Dora Madeline / Madeleine
Dora Christine
Dora Josephine
Dora Magdalene
Dora Lisette
Dora Maeve
Dora Kathleen
Dora Cybele
Dora Helen
Dora Helene
Dora Melusine
Dora Meredith
Dora Vivian / Vivien / Vivienne
Dora Vivianne
Dora Viviane
Dora Violet
Dora Violette

I totally think of Dora the Explorer. =\ And marketing of DtE shows no signs of slowing down, that I can see. To me that is a bad sign and would turn me off Dora as a babyname.I like Eudora and Medora more than Dora as a full name, anyway. If not for Nick Jr, I'd like Dora a lot more. I like Dorie as well. And Doris - I'm looking forward to its comeback, although I'm pretty sure it's still in the frumpy gray stage, and hasn't reached powdery antique sweetness yet.Off the top of my head - certain middle initials do not work well after Dora IMO, because of the way they connect with it (rar, rum, rat, ruck, oral, rap, rug):Dora Demetria
Dora Jane
Dora June
Dora Dominique
Dora Celeste
Dora Virginia
Dora Ivette

I do tend to think of Dora the Explorer, and then the theme song gets stuck in my head. Haha. I'd prefer Dora as a nickname to Dorothy or Dorothea.

I think it is adorable. Short, sweet & old fashioned. I have liked it since I was little. My grandparents lived on Dora St. It will probably bring to mind Dora the Explorer for the general public. I don't think it is a big deal though. I doubt anyone will think you named you rdaughter after her. I like short names with longer middle names.
Dora Elizabeth
Dora Isabelle
Dora Madeline
Dora Eleanor

Yeah I immediately think of Dora the Explorer. Maybe it would be okay to use, as long as they don't have a sibling or cousin called Diego lol - sorry that joke was so lame.

Unfortunately, Dora the Explorer is my first thought. I think Dora is nice, although rather old fashioned. Dorothy or Dorothea are nice full names with the nickname Dora.Fern is too short as a middle name: Dorothy or Dorothea work fine with a short middle name, but Dora needs a more substantial middle name to balance it out.Ideas:Dora Justine
Dora Leilani
Dora Lucille
Dora Stephanie
Dora Therese
Dora Josephine
Dora Michelle

I've long loved Dora and "the Explorer" has done nothing to change that. I think she's lovely as a full name, though I also like longer names for which she'd be my nickname of choice. I do have Dora Fern on my list, though I didn't get a chance to reply to that thread. I find Dora Fern entirely charming, not choppy.Dora Prudence - this is my current favorite pairing
Dora Violet
Dora Emmeline
Dora Felicity
Dora RosalineLooking at your PNL, I think these are nice:Dora Chrysanthe
Dora Eloise
Dora Josephine
Dora Juliet
Dora Pearl
Dora Penelope
Dora Rosemary - I'm okay with the "r" closeness
Dora Violette
Dora Vivienne
