[Opinions] Re: Talitha and Annabel
in reply to a message by Lily
I pronounce Talitha like Tabitha but with an L. TAL-i-tha. That way it's nowhere near Lolita! I've known a couple of Afrikaans Talithas, and they pronounce it TAH-li-tah. Good name; good history. Very popular in the 19th century, though more as a slogan than a name, in line with early feminism.Annabel isn't common where I live, unfortunately. I like it a lot. I dislike the -lle spelling for Annabel, Isabel, Rosabel ... inaccurate and needlessly fancied up.Nobody says iz-a-BEL, surely, for Isabelle? So why would Annabelle be any different? Apart from also being inaccurate, and fake-French, it's a long name already and doesn't need to be longer.

but that is the correct way to pronounce them in France and Annabelle to me is the French spelling and I do pronounce Isabelle the French way as well which is ee-zah-BEL, but maybe that's because I live in Europe.
