I love Maple because of the Robert Frost poem, I wouldn't use it because it doesn't fit my criteria for a name.
Kate's ok, but kinda dull. I think you can pull it off as a full name but obviously some people might assume it's a nn. Oddly enough, I know a bunch of Catherine or Katherine who all go by their full name. I know one Polish Katarzyna who lives in the UK and goes by Kate.
