Freaky. I was just thinking about doing a thread on
Mel (m) this morning.
My cousin had a little boy named
Mel, just
Mel. I'm not sure if she spelled it
Mel or
Mael, but she said it was after the ancient Irish saint. I googled it once and found the reference. He was an associate of St.
Patrick I think, or another well known Gaelic saint. I've always loved the sound of "mel" in names (so warm and friendly) so the fact that it is also an Irish male name in its own right was most welcome. Another name that you could use as a formal name is
Melchior.
If I used it for a girl, it would be a nn for
Imelda.
