[Opinions] Vanilla
I was thinking to myself that Vanilla sounded pretty as a name. I'm normally not fond of words as names, but I think Vanilla has a nice sound. However, I'm concerned that the name might sound trashy to some people.Do you think that Vanilla could work as a name?

I can picture it only on a pet, really. Otherwise it looks like a stripper's name. I don't like most "foody" names.

The only Vanilla I knew of was a white cat...and an untalented rapper who became a joke. I don't recommend it for a person.

It DOES have a nice sound but it is NOT usable in my opinion

No.

Sorry--I'm still learning how to post on this board. I meant to post my comment directly under the top one, but instead put it under the last one I'd read.

Ice ice baby!Vanilla does sound pretty, but I'd think of it as the slang term for "boring." I wouldn't want to be named something associated with blandness, no matter how much my parents liked that flavor. Also, it does sound kind of trashy to me. How about Mocha or Peppermint?

Well, it does fit the celebrity trend of using food names, such as Apple or Plum. I even know a little girl named Paprika. The sound of Vanilla isn't bad, to me one of the main risks would be the temptation to call her Chocolate for fun! What about Chocolate? Doesn't that sound more mysterious and passionate? (I think, actually, that food names do have a tendency to invoke thoughts of eating, or "being eaten" that can lead to less savory, say, trashy, associations).

I used to know a girl called Vanelle (or maybe it was spelled Venelle?), which I think works better as a name than Vanilla. Vanilla just sounds too, well, sweet and sugary.

Not as bland as the ice cream flavor... Maybe be a bit too tasty for name consumption, as in keep it in the pantries and cupboards.

No, I don't think it could work. Vanilla, at least to me, connotes boring or average. I think it would indeed sound a little trashy as a name. If used at all, it's probably best kept to the middle name position.

I agree... vanilla makes me think "bland." Also, food names in general tend to make me think "stripper name." And now for some reason I have the urge to go buy Nilla Wafers...

No. Maybe for a cream colored animal, but never on a person.

Not trashy, particularly, but pretty odd. Despite the pretty sound, i wouldn't want to be called Vanilla.

Not on a person. I do think it'd sound trashy. And other than the flavor, vanilla also reminds of "vanilla" sex.

I think it's too delicious-sounding to be a name. But I've thought about it too. You know what though, some names sound weird at first but then after awhile you can't imagine the person being named anything else. It's pretty.Bottom line: I don't know. lol.

It's one of those words that sounds similar to familiar girls' names, but I think it would be difficult to avoid being teased with a name like Vanilla, especially because of the phrase "vanilla sex." How about Vanora instead?

What about Vendela? Not the same, I know, but maybe close enough to the sound? It doesn't have the same feel, to me, but if I think of something, I'll edit this post :)

No, not on a real person.
