[Facts] Airlyn
Hello, I can't remember where I found this name, Airlyn. It's a femenine name, and I suppose it's composed of 'air' and 'lynn'. Do you know its meaning and ethnic background? Thank you.As pure as the air, as soft as the sky, as bright as a star; Wintermoon's who I am

I think that it belongs with the 'hippie' names, such as Skylar, Star, etc.

Sorry, I wasn't considering it an opinion. Opinions to me are more 'I do/don't like this because.'Won't do it again.

Well...Yes, I read your comment as an opinion, but now I see how it could be interpreted otherwise: a hippie made-up name.I'm sorry if I came off a little harsh, btw. But Chrisell just said in this same thread not to post opinions, so I kind of lost it when you apparently it too. This teaches us the value of proofreading for clarity, though, doesn't it? ;-)

THis is just a crazy guess but it sounds Irish or Gaelic or something. Rasputin: Slow down!
Yakko: Why? Everyone else is Russian around here!

Dracula: I am Count Dracula!
Yakko: Didn't you use to teach math on Sesame Street?

ATTN: Lakota . . .Please look at the title of this board. It is for FACTS and facts ONLY. "Crazy guesses" are not permitted, nor are made-up meanings or anything else that cannot be verified by research. Please don't post unless you have a genuine contribution to make. If you have evidence to show that Airlyn is an Irish or Gaelic name, by all means provide it; but otherwise, please stop posting until you understand how this board works.

I was just saying what i thought. Ned Flat: Why are you acting like this?
Yakko: We're not acting. We really are like this.

Dracula: I am Count Dracula!
Yakko: Didn't you use to teach math on Sesame Street?
---
Yakko: Well it's that time again!
Dot: To make fun of the Disney Channel?

Yes, that's my point. This board is NOT for opinions, it's not about what you "think" or about what you "guess". It's about providing factual explanations based on research. Go read some of the other replies people have made - read posts by Cleveland Kent Evans, Anneza, Miranda, Andy, Pavlos, or any of the other regulars, and see how THEY present their findings. But don't say *anything* about the meaning or origin of a name unless you have some evidence to support what you say. It's not hard to understand. If you're too young to cope with this board, stick to the other boards and stay off this one.

I don't think it was that bad what she said, as she did say it's a guess. This way, Wintermoon can decide for herself, if it might be something in that direction by narowing in her search. And I find her guess quite good aswell, that was the first thing that sprang to my mind aswell.

It looks Welsh to me...A la Eirlys and all. And Welsh, it should be noted, is not Gaelic--it's Brythonic Celtic, so says Wikipedia. But I agree with Lala that it may be totally made up. And I agree with Chrisell that "wild guesses" don't belong here. Educated guesses are permitted, but you got to have a fact or two to base that guess on!

If its composed of "Air" and "Lynn", then it really doesn't have much background or meaning. Its looks invented to me, actually. If you wish to explore the roots of the name Lynn, click here: Lynn.
