Help[Opinions] Oberon?
Yes, I know, very Shakespeare. But, I stumbled across Oberon the other day and for some reason, I started thinking about it as a name, rather than just the character. And so now I'm starting to like it. What are your thoughts? Currently I'm thinking it's kind of offbeat, but is it just too out there?
Also, I started throwing around some combo ideas... Possibly paired with a more "conventional" name to balance things?

I'm not a big beer person, but Oberon is one of the few I love! If you lived where I did, you certainly couldn't use Oberon as a name. It's a seasonal beer, and the day it comes out is like a freaking holiday here (it's even called "Oberon Day.").
I really can't seperate it from that association. Maybe if it's spelled Auberon. Yeah. That makes me think of a great warrior with a big sword (a la Auron).
So trying to think of it that way, I like Graeme Oberon (pretty colors!) and William Oberon (swoon) and Rory Oberon a lot. And I would love Auberon Alexander. Normally I dislike Alexander as a mn (way too easy) but visually and feel-wise it works very well with Auberon, but not Oberon.

I just realized I always liked this name, but only as a name and not on an actual human. I just can't picture it.

Oberon (from Bell's Brewery) is a very popular beer in these parts (Michigan, U.S.; I don't know how widely it is distributed). That might be irrelevant to you, but to me it is an inseparable association with the name. It is pretty firmly planted in my mind that Oberon = beer.
I can see it being better placed in the middle name place than the first. It's a little too something for me to like it as a first name. I don't tend to go for things that are so Shakespearean or celestial (or from mythology, something I think has a similar feel). I don't know how to explain the negative feeling I have toward them, but I don't care for them.

And I know they distribute it as far as North Carolina. We have a friend who moved there and freaked out excited when he saw it once.

I adore Oberon. I think it's the perfect compliment to quite a few names. My stock Oberon combo is Walter Oberon, which combines my love of Walt Whitman with my love of Shakespeare.

I personally think that anything that Oberon is paired with shouldn't be too long, except maybe something really classic like Nathaniel Oberon.
