WDYTO of Giovanna, nn Gianna? It's the name of a character in a story I'm writing. How would you pronounce it? (I know BtN says jo-VAH-nah and JAH-nah, but I'm wondering what everyone thinks the names should sound like)

I do Italian at uni, which is the only reason I say jo-VA-na and JA-nah automatically. I think a lot of English speakers would favour jee-oh-VAH-na and jee-AH-na naturally.

I'd far prefer to see the proper Italian pronunciation used ... I'm nitpicky like that :-)

I have a friend named Giovanna and we say it like G-O-VAH-nah. I like it, its cute.

I like Gianna the best out of the two. I use the Italian pronunciation, JAHN-nah. I think it's a really cool name for a story character :-)

I pronounce it gee - o - VAH - nah.

It is a pretty name to use in a book, and I really like the nn Gianna. I would never use it in real life though.

Well, don't really like Giovanna, it's the Vanna part I think because I really do like Gianna. I think Gianna would be fine by itself. I usually pronounce it jee-on-ah and jee-oh-von-ah but that's probably wrong. another name I really like it Giada (jee-ah-dah) which means 'jade'. :)

I would pronounce them as gee-o-varna and gee-arna but I know this isn't correct and should be pronounced as BtN says. I very much like Gianna.
