[Opinions] Promise
Heard this word name at work the other day. I rather like it and think Missy would be a sweet nn. WDYT?

Margarine!
Promise was the brand of margarine my grammie always bought so I couldn't really use it as a name. I suppose it would be nice if it weren't for that.

This name and similar word names such as Destiny, Essence, Serenity, Magic, et al, are a group of names I find to be of an especial degree of distaste. They sound revoltingly over-sentimental and tawdry, like an image of a unicorn shaved onto a mirror. I think it would be an exceedingly poor choice.

It's not my style, but it's nice. I wouldn't call her Missy, though.
I had a doctor named this when I was a teenager. She was very cool and I always liked her name. I'm not sure that I like Missy, though - Promise is sweet enough.
I'm not a fan of virtue-y names. For me, Promise fits in with Angel, Truth, Honor, Justice, Charity, and the like - all of which I find over-the-top and cheesy. Just my style, I guess. And while I'm being a poop :), Missy is too prissy-sounding for my liking. She sounds like she couldn't every possibly get in a canoe or sleep in a tent.
Go figure!
Aha.
You're in Canada, whereas I grew up in the US, close to the South. Missy is a very Southern / Country name around here, so that is what I picture.
