[Opinions] Psamathe
WDYTO Psamathe? How would you pronounce it? (I pronounce it SAM-uh-thee.) Do you find the silent P- to be a little pretentious (coupled with the pronounced -e) or do you think it could still work as a first name? Any combos? Do you like the nickname Sam? Any other nicknames? Thanks :)

To me it looks like a bastardized version of Samantha (minus the 'n') and I'd pronounce it as such. "sah-MATH-e" - (the e being a schwa)Your pronunciation reminds me too much of Timothy...
Don't like it one bit

There's an Egyptian fairy with attitude in some of the E Nesbit books; he was a Psammead, and that's all I can think of. Good character, but definitely not human in real life.

I don't like it at all. The silent P is pretentious looking. And it just looks completely made up and random. I actually thought this was a kre8tyve spelling of Samantha at first...

hahah
Very goofy! Nickname should be Psam. Never Sam, but Psam.or Psandy, since it means Sand goddess.

I like it, but I prefer the Greek pronunciation of PSAH-mah-thee (yes, the P sound is pronounced Greek). Sam is ok, but one would automatically assume the full name was Samantha instead.

I dislike it. I get that it's an actual name, but I feel like I'm looking at one of those word scrambles. My first thought on the pronunciation was SAHM-ahth (sorta' like and odd combination of Psalm and Sabbath). I don't think it would work as a first name.

Ouch! That looks like a very silly kr8tiv spelling of Samantha to me.

Just my opinion, but I just don't like the look or sound of this name. I would pronounce is Sam-ah-thee, like Timothy.

Oh my godI had totally forgotten about Psamathe! I used to have such a big crush on this name. Love it! I pronounce it the same way you do. I like the nickname Sam, as well as Thea or Tea (TAY-ah...I know there's no A, but if people can add an -ie to nicknames, I can add an a).

I'd pronounce it sam a thee. It's interesting, but for real-life use outside Greece, too potentially problematic for my liking.

Looks like someone's trying too hard for a cre8ive spelling of Samantha... Looks dumb. Sam's ok as a nn... I wouldn't use Psamanthe though. If I'm going to name a child Samantha, I'm going to at least spell it right.

Um...Psamathe is in no way related to Samantha. It's a name in its own right.

but to the average westerner, that's what it'll look like.

When reading it, my first thought was suh-MAAT, which doesn't sound all that bad. I'd just remove the P from the beginning.

I think it sounds cool, but would always be assumed to be a Samantha variant. I also have a love/hate thing with the Ps-. It seems cool, unusual, but classic, but it reminds me of psalm- meh.

I would pronounce it like Sam-uh-thee. It looks nice, but I don't think I could get used to saying/hearing it without thinking it's some trendy variant of Samantha. Sam is a cute nickname for it though.
