I went through a major Peter loving phase for a year or so where I would've named a second son that. It's still on the list, but has been overtaken by two or three other names lately.

It's so kind and huggable and honest and it has great associations-- Peter Rabbit, Peter and the Wolf, and Peter Pan, particularly.

At first I didn't like Pete, but I do now. It's very down-home. I wouldn't use it exclusively, but I'd use it.

Pieter looks like an entirely different name to me. It's much colder.

I like it. It's my Dad's name (he's 50) but I can actually imagine it working on a boy/man of any age. I don't really like Pete as a nickname either, even though that's what my Dad uses.

I think it fits in well with Jasper, Oscar, Casper and names like that which seem to be getting more common.

Pieter does look a bit odd. People might assume it's spelled Peter, but I don't think anyone would have trouble pronouncing Pieter.

I've known plenty of Peters of all ages, and never a dud among them. So that's a good start! When I chose it for my son, I thought it was a good choice (personal considerations apart) because it's familiar without being megapopular, and it works well or forms of it work well in all European languages. He enjoys being a Peter, especially when he was in his heavy metal phase and found out the meaning - Rock!

I never liked Peter. But recently, I've fallen quite hard for this girl at my work and her year-old son is named Peter and he's ADORABLE.
I am almost worried about how fast it is growing on me.

It's ok. Not exciting, but ok... also not overused. I have a bro. named Peter who hardly ever got called Pete growing up... He was just always Peter.

I love Peter but feel I have to qualify that statement by saying that I love the NAME Peter (and therein lies the problem which is that it's slang for the male member). Sigh ... I wish that baggage wasn't attached to the name because it really is an awesome name and I have heard the slang even as an adult. Apparently, some people thing they're so clever. Still, I would be thrilled to meet a young Peter because I can't use it (our surname is Burns -- ouch!). I agree that Pieter wouldn't work in an English culture.

Love, love, love Peter. Pieter looks funny to me, but I've never seen it spelled that way. Also, I dislike Pete as well, but Peter is wonderful.

It's my #1. Easy to pronounce/spell, international, relatively timeless, not super common, good meaning, Schubert's middle name. It's pretty much Laura Wattenberg's elusive "perfect" boy name ( http://www.namecandy.com/name-lady/2011/08/01/the-baby-name-absolutely-everyone-wants ), except the hipster masses aren't into it because they don't like Pete yet, as if it were part of modern culture to nickname people anyway... and I like Pete, so I have a leg up on all you creeps! HAHAHAH

It is my Dad's name and I will definitely use it as a mn or a fn for my first son. I actually don't mind Pete as a nn either (although I prefer just the full name)- Pete is one of those nicknames that always sounds friendly and approachable to me, along the same lines as Joe, Tom or Rick.

Pieter is nice (and it might avoid Pete more easily). I'm not in the UK but I don't think Pieter would be too hard to live with..

It's all right. It's not a favorite of mine. I can't shake the association with it as a slang term for male genitalia. :(

Peter is and always has been my favorite name for a boy. It's my older brother's name which explains a lot (Peter Damien). And as fate would have it my dh's name is also Peter (Peter Thomas). What are the odds?

I never cared for the nn Pete either, but that's what my dh goes by and I need something to distinguish him from my brother. (yikes)

I've always thought the name Peter deserved more attention. It's intelligent and kind and combines beautifully with so many wonderful names. I hope you get a chance to use it. :-D
