[Opinions] Re: Cyril
in reply to a message by Bear
I'm sure this is not a legitimate variant, but Kyril is the name of the main hero in the RPG Suikoden Tactics (http://www.suikosource.com/games/gst/). I love the Suikoden game series, and there are many, MANY characters, so several names are tied to it in my mind. Kyril is pronounced like Cyril but with a hard K sound (KEER-ill). I really like it and prefer it to the soft C of Cyril, even if it isn't a real name.Kira is nice, but I don't like the spelling Keira because I can't stand Keira Knightley. Kira, with this spelling, makes me think of Kira Nerys from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I'm a Trekkie, so that's a much better association.

Ah, yes. But you see the reason you don't care for Keira has nothing to do with Ms Knightly. You are clever enough to pick up on the misspelling of the Anglicized form of Ciara ("KEER-uh") which should be Kiera, not Keira. It's the namenerd in you I'm sure of it. :-PSeriously, I do understand about associations tainting (or helping) a name. Luckily good ol' Kira is there for you and the Star Trek reference is fun. Thanks for the feedback. :-)
