I love Arthur! It's a solid choice, I'd use it in a heartbeat :)

Stick with Arthur. It's got a mythical side to it that I think keeps it modern. "Old" names are fairly popular still and age well. Arthen and Arthmael sound far too much like names from a fantasy novel.

Arthur is strong and handsome, and old is definitely not the first adjective to comes to my mind. It'll grow up well with a little boy and tends to look professional and intelligent.

I quite like Arthur and think he'd stand apart from the crowd (in a very good way). Just promise me you'll consider not using Artie. I hate that nn with a shimmering passion! Besides, Arthur doesn't need a nn. Well, I'll amend that. Art is doable.

I think Arthur is a terrific name. It doesn't seem dated to me. I don't really like either of the variations in your post. They just sound to me as if they wish they were Arthur.

I think it fits in better here in England because old style names are pretty common (Florence, Oscar, Archie etc.) Arthur is in the top 100.

I know of an Arthur who is about 4, so I don't think it's too old.

I like Arthur a lot. It does have an old man feel, but it's a cute image for me, rather than some other older names that give me a gross old man feel, if that makes sense.

I have not heard of Arthen or Arthmael but I think they are a bit out-there, especially Arthmael.

Personally the second child I have of one gender is either going to be named Artemis if it is a girl or Arthur, Arturus or Artair if it is a boy. Arturus is the latin version of Arthur. In the latin written versions of Arthurian legends they refer to him as Arturus. They refered to him a few rare times as Arthurus.

I'm going to be using Art names in honor of my partners grandpa who died a few years ago from cancer. His name was Arthur but he hated his name and only went my Artie and sometimes rarely as Art. My partner can't decide what Artie honoring name he would want to use. Also we could end up just naming our first born son Arthur but we both love the name Keiran so much and if we only had one son it would be sad not to use our favorite name. If we have a girl Artie she will be named Artemis Dorothea.

I love Arthur! I originally got that kind of "old" feeling from it, but I've really liked the name for a few years and eventually that feeling faded away to some degree. Maybe it's just a matter of time? This sounds like a silly suggestion, but perhaps if you look at pictures of not-so old Arthurs you could work on dissolving that association somewhat? I also really like Arthen. I would be delighted to see either an Arthur or an Arthen. Arthmael does seem like too much, but I think that Arthur Mael or Arthen Mael would work well as a combo.

EDIT: Or perhaps Archer? It's similar to Arthur but doesn't really have that same "old" feel. However, you may be substiting an "old" feel for a "trendy" feel. I like Archer, but I probably prefer Arthur.

Hmm. I know what you mean about the "old" feeling. Arthmael would be cool on a character, but it's a bit much on a real person. I like the idea of Arthen! It also sounds character-y, but it's simple enough for real life. I also like Artur and Arturo, and I don't think they sound as "old" as Arthur. Arthend is another variation I've seen.
