[Opinions] Re: Comfort
When I was a kid I read a book set in England just after the Napoleonic Wars I think, when slavery was still legal but there was mounting opposition to it. Two characters were little sisters, white English girls, who went to stay with their cousins and were horrified to be met by a black servant - who in spite of their worst fears is not a slave! Her name was Dinah, and the sisters were Comfort and Mercy, giving them a pleasantly Puritanical air.Comfort could well have been taken to Africa as a missionary name, a few decades later.
