[Opinions] Theolina

I'm a big Josh Groban fan (he's a guilty pleasure!) and I've just found an article about his family tree on Huffington Post.His great-great-grandmother was Norwegian and called Theolina.It's a new one on me and I think it's rather beautiful. I think it may well be added to my list.I've typed it into Google but I haven't found much about it yet. Several 'baby name' sites suggest that it's French but there is no meaning.Is anyone familiar with the name and know more about it? Any general thoughts about the name?NB: I feel all giddy right now, I love discovering a name I've not seen before!

My great-grandfather's sister was Edith Theolina. :) I have also seen her name written Teolinda or Teodolinda, which is related to Dietlinde, but I don't know if Theolina is actually the same name as those, or if the writer just got it wrong.

Ooh thank you, that's a good lead, and I think it's perfectly conceivable that Teolinda/Teodolinda could have evolved into Theolina.I am continuing to investigate and this gives me a fresh starting point.Edith Theolina is a great name.

I don't know where it came from or anything like that. I do like the name though! (and I like the nns Lina and Thea)

Theoline is a french name, its pretty old but is apparently on the rise. Not sure of the meaning, maybe its related to Theophile, Theodore etc?

It's cute. My guess is that it's just a combination of Theo (maybe taken from Theodora, which means "god") and Lina which is a common name in Scandinavia.
