I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Prunella, which I really like.

While I love Fern and Fenella, Fernella sounds contrived and trivial to me.

Oooh. Sign me up for Prunella as well. Was she in Arthurian tales? I keep thinking of Patient Griselda, but that is from Chaucer (and Boccacio).

In an Arthurian name database I checked there's no Prunella or Fernella. But Prunella is a character in the cartoon, Arthur.
